PSHE and Enterprise Days

Here's what the year groups got up to on the 22nd and 24th June!

Year 7

Year 7 took part in sessions looking at the ecosystem and how to protect the environment. They had a live talk from the WWF (https://www.wwf.org.uk/ ) as well as scavenger hunts, field sketching and fundraising ideas.

They then met Jen Carney, author of The Accidental Diary of B.U.G., and developed their own ideas for the book. Teams took on roles such as illustrator and campaign manager, then presented their ideas to the rest of their tutor group in the hopes of winning a copy of The Accidental Diary of B.U.G. (above is the winning team from 7H).

Year 8

Year 8 spent both days in space!

They had a challenge set by Dave Pollard from Spaceport Cornwall (https://www.spaceportcornwall.com/ ) to develop an idea using satellite technology. Each tutor group entered a team to pitch their ideas (above on the right is the team who designed an environmental tracker collecting their prizes from Dave Pollard).

There were also a number of space-related activities, such as making (and eating) space food, building a rocket, space fitness and a Mission to Mars.

The Year 8s were also visited by local Police Engagement Officers to talk about online safety, in particular, online image use.

Year 9

Year 9 worked with students from Falmouth University (https://www.falmouth.ac.uk/ ) to develop ideas for festivals and sustainable products. On the final day, groups presented ideas for their own social enterprises to their tutor groups.

Year 10

Year 10s took part in a wide range of sessions, including learning more about University Life, the risks and rewards of gambling, and also awareness of Everyday Sexism.*

Their highlight was a workshop with motivational speakers from Student Breakthrough (above is the video they created of day).

*There is now an Everyday Sexism Drop-in Session on Friday 16th July for Year 10 girls. Please see the recent article on the Helstonian for more details.
