Surf Club

During the summer term, Mr Bloor offers the chance for Year 7s to go surfing after school on Fridays. Here are some photos and a write-up from Kerensa who took part this year:

Fridays after school we meet at the sports office gathering together before hoping on the minibus and driving to our destination. Gwithian beach is a huge beach with a ginormous amount of sand some of which comes home in my surfing wetsuit! The first week we learned safety signals like holding up a closed fist, meaning its time to get out of the sea and back to the beach. The surf instructors are nice men that teach us how to stand on the board and use the force of the waves to move in with the tides. Each week there is a competition of who stands up first, but it doesn’t matter if you fall down so long as you don’t take a nose dive into the hard sand. While learning to surf is great fun we also get to swim and jump about in the crashing waves and rough tides, and if you are really lucky a curious seal might come and see what you are doing. Surf club is a great way to finish off the week in the summer term enjoying the crazy cool sea and dandy beach with friends and teachers, especially with a yummy donut or cookie for the journey home!
