Drama trip - St Just Ordinalia 2021

Last month, Post 16 and GCSE Drama students went to watch the St Just Ordinalia 2021.

The production was an adaptation of biblical stories following Jesus' life and was divided into three plays. Despite retelling a well-known story, the Ordinalia Plays are unique to Cornwall and are the oldest surviving trilogy of plays in Britain.

The students went along to the second play within the trilogy, which explored Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday and culminates in his death. Here is what they had to say about the experience:

'The staging was particularly clever, as the performance took place all around you and was an immersive experience.'

'While the telling of the story was faithful to the Bible, there were new characters introduced that explored the themes in a unique way. This gave me insight into how to adapt a story whilst still retaining original content.'

After a long experience of lockdown and the restrictions on creative industries, the Drama department where thrilled to see a live play being performed on stage once again (although still open-air for now!).
